Message from Amy L. Hysell,
Arizona Financial President & CEO

First Quarter 2024

Looking ahead & reflecting back

Happy New Year as we ring in 2024. I hope you and yours enjoyed the holidays and are excited about the possibilities a new year can bring.

At Arizona Financial, we are certainly looking ahead with excitement, but we’re also taking a moment to reflect on some enhancements we made in 2023 – like the introduction of our Free Checking Account*, High-Yield Savings Account and High-Yield CDs. These new accounts represent our commitment to return value to our members by offering low-cost account options and market-leading deposit rates so you can make the most of your money.

Everyday best pricing, member growth & new branches

Heading into 2024, we will continue this focus on providing our members with our best rates and terms on deposits and loans, so you know you’ll always be getting great value when you bank with Arizona Financial.

With our new state-wide service area and expansion into Western Arizona, growing our membership will also be a focus in 2024. We know we have an exciting opportunity to deliver our not-for-profit business model to even more Arizonans as an alternative to mega banks that prioritize stockholders over individual account holders.

New growth also means new service areas. We’re currently scouting for a new location in the Southeast Valley, specifically near Queen Creek and San Tan Valley. We anticipate opening our next branch in that area, and we are looking throughout metro Phoenix for additional expansion opportunities.

More support for small businesses

We recognize the important role small businesses play in our community and know they have unique banking needs. To better support the businesses we serve, we’re building a new team dedicated to serving business members exclusively. This team will be accessible by phone, email, chat and other means, and equipped with the knowledge and empowered with the authority to help our business members get things done. Look for the Business Desk to debut in the spring.

Your debit card makes a difference

If you follow us on social media, you may have seen our recent announcement about our Local Causes giveback program. In early December we awarded nearly $60,000 in grants to 10 local nonprofits. For the first time ever, we awarded the grants at an in-person ceremony, and it was an incredible and moving experience to hear the stories about how these grants are having an impact in our community.

Thank you to our members for using the Local Causes debit card. Every time you make a purchase with this card, Arizona Financial makes a donation to a community fund that is then distributed to local nonprofits in the form of these grants.

Since launching the program in 2020, we’ve awarded nearly $300,000 to 80 hyper-local nonprofits that do great work in the community but don’t get the same recognition and support as some of those larger, better-know organizations in the community.

Are you and your family members carrying the Local Causes debit card in your wallet? If not, stop by your local branch to pick up your card or visit ArizonaFinancial.org/Debit to learn more.

As we begin a new year, I would like to extend my best wishes to you for a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2024. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, and please reach out to let us know how we can help you reach your financial goals in the year ahead.

Sincerely,
Amy L. Hysell

The Supervisory Committee

Our Supervisory Committee is comprised of volunteers who are appointed by the Board of Directors to represent Arizona Financial's members. This committee serves as our checks and balances to keep us on track.

The committee is responsible for ensuring that members' funds and interests are protected at all times. To accomplish this goal, the Supervisory Committee performs several specific duties including: overseeing an annual independent audit of the credit union, verifying members' accounts, reviewing internal accounting systems and controls, and ensuring that all policies and procedural guidelines are followed.

The Supervisory Committee works closely with our Compliance and Review Services department, confirming the reliability of controls in place and the consistency of the credit union's protection processes. Along with participating in monthly board meetings and planning sessions, the Supervisory Committee continues to serve members on an individual basis.

The Cooperative Business Model

Credit unions are financial cooperatives, comprised of members who have joined together to pursue a common goal.
At Arizona Financial, that common goal is being in control of our personal finances. And that boils down to three things:

EMPOWERMENT • EXPERTISE • MUTUAL BENEFIT

Arizona Financial is committed to the seven core principles of the cooperative movement:

  • Voluntary & Open Membership
  • Democratic Member Control
  • Members' Economic Participation
  • Autonomy & Independence

  • Education, Training & Information
  • Cooperation Among Cooperatives
  • Concern for Community
